Chang Quan

Changquan (Long Fist) is the general term for a dozens schools of boxing, which include Zhaquan, Huaquan, Honquan, Paoquan, Shaolinquan, Tongbeiquan, Bajiquan, Piguaquan, Fanziquan, Chuojiao, Yanqingquan, etc.

The main characteristics of the Long Fist boxing (especially Shaolin, Zha, Hua, Hon, Pao, and Yanqing Boxing styles) are expansiveness and gracefulness in posture and agility and speed in movement. Long Fist boxers fight to the extreme of their length. They move fast, jump high and far, and combine hardness and softness, fast and slow motions, and stillness. The movements of long fist are quick, powerful and rhythmic. Their generation of energy is powerful and the origin and outlet of the energy are clear.

Bajiquan, Piguaquan, Tongbeiquan, Fanziquan and Chuojiao are some of the most distinctive styles of northern boxing.
