Grand Master Yuan Zhang - Chinese National Champion

Grand Master Zhang Yuan has been teaching WuShu in the United states ever since 2002. He emigrated to the United States From China in 2001.

*1987 China national gold medallist in Xing Yi Quan (Form & Will Boxing) and Ba Ji Quan (Fist of Eight Extremes).

*2001 Florida International Martial Arts Tournament winner of 6 gold medals and 1 silver medal.

*2001 U.S. National Martial Arts Tournament All-Around Champion.

*Former martial arts director and actor in numerous Chinese martial arts movies.

Zhang Yuan began training in WuShu and Qigong at an early age of 8 with master instructors in China. He later went on to join the Shanxi WuShu Company and eventually became the WuShu director and the principal performer at the Xian Movie Studios where he also starred in many Chinese martial art movies. While in China he earned many top national prizes for WuShu, including 1st place at the National WuShu Competition in China and 1st place at the National Freestyle Martial Arts Competition. He also achieved many top rankings Internationally, including the 6 gold medals at the 2001 International WuShu Competition and 1st place at the American Martial Arts Competition.

In July of 2002, the NYPD hired Zhang Yuan as a self-defense instructor.

 

 

(Short)-BIOGRAPHY OF MASTER YUAN ZHANG

 

 

Martial Arts Master Yuan Zhang began to practice Wushu at the age of 8.  He was chosen to join the Wushu Team of Xian City at the age of 10 and joined Wushu Team of Sanxi Province at the age of 14.  Master Yuan Zhang studied Wushu with the same master as Changjun Zao who had won 10 Chinese Wushu championships in ten consecutive years.  Master Yuan Zhang had won Gold Medal in Xing Yi Quan and Ba Ji Quan in Chinese National Wushu Championship in 1987.  He had won 6 Gold Medals and 1 Silver Awards at the International Martial Arts Tournament in Florida in 2001.  He is the same generation as Jet Li.  Master Zhang has won two gold medals of traditional Wushu, and fourth place in national championships of San Da (one of Wushu styles).  In 1984, Master Zhang retired from professional Wushu career and became an actor, Wushu instructor, and Wushu choreographer for movies in Xian Movie Company.

 

Master Zhang has learned different Wushu styles from different famous masters in China.  His masters include Tong Zhang, famous master in 1950’s.  Later Master Zhang studies Taijiquan from Master Linqing Chen, who’s the master of Chen style Taijinquan.  He has learned Changquan, Xingyi, Liuhe, Baji, Buoji, Shamuoguan, Taiji, etc. from his Sifus. 

 

After retiring from the professional team, Master Zhang was an instructor for special army units in The People’s Liberation Army of China and the Xian police force. 

 

Master Zhang became Wushu coach for professional teams.  I.E. Wushu teams from Japan, and Switzerland. 

 

Master Zhang is highly respected for his skill, his honesty, and his personality. His talents and qualities are can only be compared to the world’s greatest martial artists, both past and present.

 

Master Zhang acted in about ten films and TV shows.  He also designed the fighting actions for the films and TV shows.  Some of the films, and TV shows Master Zhang played in and designed Wushu fightings are:

 

·        “Shenbian”: portrayed Zuo Chuan Xou Lung, and choreographed Wushu fighting.

·        “Shanjin”:   portrayed Shanze, and choreographed Wushu fighting.

·        “Donglin Da Dao”: portrayed Xiao Man zi.

·        “Luan Shi Zan Qi”: portrayed Zhao Qi”, and choreographed Wushu fighting.

·        “Ying Shen Buo Shi”: portrayed Mi zhi Yan, and choreographed Wushu fighting.

·        “Qi Xia Chu Shan”: Choreographed Wushu fighting.

·        “Jin Wei Jung”: Choreographed Wushu fighting.

·        “Te Jing 110”: Choreographed Wushu fighting.

 

Master Zhang has two Wushu schools in the United States.  Both are located in New York City: one is Fort Hammilton 9th ave,Brooklyn, and one is in Flushing, Queens.  Master Zhang also teaches in the universities in Manhattan, and New Jersey. 

He teaches the following styles:

       Ba Ji Quan, San Da/SanShu, Ying Yi Quan (Form & Will Boxing), Tong Bei Quan (5 Elements), Tai Chi Quan, Ba Gua Zhang, Zui Quan (Drunken Boxing), Qin Na (Bare Hand Capture Methods), Mei Hua Zhang, Shao Lin Quan, Hua Quan (Flower Fist), Cha Quan (Cha Style Fist), Pao Quan (Cannon Fist), Di Tan Quan (Ground Tumbling Boxing), Hou Quan (Monkey Style), Pi Gua Quan (Chop Hanging Fist), Tang Lan Quan (Mantis Boxing), Ying Zhao Quan (Eagle Style).  Master Zhang also teaches to use the following weapons: Broadsword, Straight Sward, Staff, Spear, Double Broadsword, Double Swords, 9 Section Steel Whip, 3 Section Staff, Southern Staff Techniques, Butterfly Knives, Double Hooks and Ba Qua Broadsword
